Summary (!!SPOILERS!!)
This book is a graphic novel about a girl named Anya, her experiences with a ghost named Emily, and also with high school. It starts when Anya, distracted by her thoughts, falls down an old well while walking to school. She finds the ghost's skeleton, and meets Emily, the small ghost girl. When she eventually gets helped out of the well, she mistakenly brings part of Emily's skeleton with her. Fast forward two days later, Anya finds Emily's bone in her bag while at school. She quickly finds out that having a ghost with her is extremely helpful (Emily can look at answers to the test she didn't study for, spy on her crush, etc.). After a while though, Anya notices that she has started to change. Emily's kind of obsessive over Anya's love life, and doesn't seem interested in solving the mystery of her murder at all. I wonder why?
Overall, I really liked this book. This is another one that I've read before, but re-reading it wasn't any less fun than the first time. The art style is very pretty, and I especially like how the author draws Emily, how detailed the settings are, and how the monotone colors that are used enhance the story. I also enjoyed the interactions between the characters, and how Anya's treatment of some of them change over the course of the story. The only problem that I have with this book are some loose ends that didn't get tied up (the Sean + Elizabeth plot got no closure, same thing with Dima, etc.), but other than that, it's a pretty good graphic novel. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a modern ghost story with a few twists.

I agree Evie, I also enjoyed reading this book. The art style is good and it accompanies the story well. I liked reading your review and I hope to read this book again sometime.
ReplyDeleteThe art style looks so cool! Novels involving ghosts seem to always be an interesting read, and this appears to be no exception. The summary left me quite interested in finding out the case of Emily's death, and the rest of the plot also seems to be an enjoyable read. Awesome review!
