A review of Pride and Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, is without a doubt one of the most widely-known books of all time. Pride and Prejudice explores themes that can still be seen everywhere in the modern world. Despite having a distinctly old feel to it, Pride and Prejudice's core themes and messages transcend time.
No spoilers.
Summary
Pride and Prejudice follows the story of five sisters that need to be married, in order to keep property through inheritance. It follows their pursuits and advances by many different characters, and explores the idea of marrying for love versus marrying for money, and how subjective first impressions can damage relationships before they start.
Overall, the internal ideas and messages are very well designed: In hindsight, after a bit of thought, the execution appears much better than while reading. While the story is old, and slightly stuffy and hard-to-read because of it, it requires a decent amount of critical thinking and slow/rereading to fully grasp the message. While the plot is relatively boring and plain by modern standards, it is a great book if you enjoy deep messages rather than quick, "reel-you-in" type stories. I personally didn't enjoy the book too much, as it was just a little too hard to read through, but I can definitely see why it is such a classic.

Hey Jonathan! This is a really nice review. I liked how you discussed your opinion at the end. I would have liked a more in-detail summary of the book. I understand that you didn't want to give any spoilers, but I wanted an idea of what the book was really about. This seems like a book that you thoroughly enjoyed, so I will keep and eye out!
