A review of "The Boys in the Boat" by Daniel James Brown

Summary

The Boys in the Boat is a true story about the University of Washington's rowing team. The book focuses on one of the teams members at first but it starts to talk more about the entire team later in the book. The book tells the story of the struggles the team had to go through to get to the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The book additionally shows what life was like for the average American during the Great Depression. It shows insight into the team but also gives a lot of rowing information which was very interesting.

My Opinion

I thought that this was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to anyone look for a good book. It was quite interesting as I learned a lot about rowing and the Great Depression along with the story on the rowing team. It is great as it is about history while also being interesting to read. I really enjoyed as I am very interested in that era of history and I learned a lot of things I did not know before.

  1. Great review on a book that discusses a topic that is often talked about in the Olympics world - the struggle leading up to qualifying for a world-class competition. I'll read this book sometime in the future.

  2. While short, I liked how you included detail about what the book was about and what makes it interesting. While I may not read this book, I might have to recommend this to other people.
